What happens when you watch Hail Caesar, a lot of Bojack Horseman, and then have to write a Shakespeare mash-up children’s play? Billy Shakes and the Big Screen, which I wrote and directed for Acting for Young People's Advanced Actors Showcase program. Working with Acting for Young People has encouraged me to stretch my creative muscles on a daily basis and this play is a perfect example. Using the plot and characters of Romeo and Juliet and The Tempest as a starting point, I crafted a 40-character, 1920s Hollywood-themed script that explores gender relationships and expectations for young people as well as the price of fame and the meaning of art. I know, right?
